Like most "side projects," the St. Croix Running Company started fairly innocently and quickly blossomed. What began with one race and one hundred and fifty runners has turned into five events with over one thousand runners participating annually. The events range from file-milers to eight-hour endurance races.

Attaching your name to something and letting it out into the world is humbling. Over the last 12 years, I've learned many things.

• Dreaming of an event and bringing it to life is very gratifying.

• Promotion is involved in everything I do, but with a plan and some preparation, it does not have to consume you.

• Volunteers are the heart and soul of every event. My job is to give them the framework to put on a great event, step back, and let
  them thrive.
